International Business Machines Corporation, abbreviated IBM and nicknamed "Big Blue" (for its official corporate color), is a multinational computer technology and consulting corporation headquartered in Armonk, New York, United States. IBM has been known through most of its recent history (it was originally founded in 1896 and adopted its current name in 1924) as the world's largest computer company; with over 388,000 employees worldwide.
In 1981 IBM introduced the IBM Personal Computer which is the original version and progenitor of the IBM PC compatible hardware platform. Descendants of the IBM PC compatibles make up the majority of microcomputers on the market today.
IBM HTTP Server is based on the Apache HTTP Server, developed by the Apache Software Foundation and runs on AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, Windows and z/OS. At present the HTTP Server is included with the WebSphere Application Server.
